The orientation at XIMB will kick off on June 19, while the study session would commence on June 22
The Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneshwar (XIMB) is all set to welcome another lot of PGDM programme students. However, while sharing information with MBAUniverse.com, XIMB Director Fr PT Joseph SJ, said that the MBA institute is optimistic about adding a few more seats in this years academic session. Until now 150 students have been enrolled for the MBA programme and they are due to begin their classes on June 22. But at XIMB, we are trying to add 30 more seats. The matter is presently pending with the AICTE and we are waiting for the green signal, Fr PT Joseph SJ said.
Prior to the commencement of the study session, the MBA institute has organised an orientation programme for the newcomers on June 19, 2009 at the XIMB Bhubaneshwar campus. Dr Sasmit Patra from XIMB, while talking to MBAUniverse.com said, All new students joining the MBA programme in 2009 would be inducted through an orientation programme.
The XIMB Director and all departmental Deans, along with other faculty and department members, would enrich the orientation programme by sharing their views and experiences with the new MBA students. Apart from apprising them with the institutes norms and procedures, the speakers will introduce the students with the tools and technique of study at XIMB.
The XIMB has also introduced a lot of changes in the MBA programme course structure to meet with the challenges of the new world order. This years MBA programme course structure would be highly advanced and extremely condensed to provide the students with the best content possible, that too in the least possible time, Patra said, while explaining that the time derived from condensing the courses would be put to use by engaging the students in more CEO talks, seminars, rural exposure and practical exposure, thereby providing them with first-hand experience of practical management.
Sharing course details with MBAUniverse.com, the Director of XIMB said, The XIMB has updated the entire syllabus model and introduced about 16 new courses in this years MBA programme. Also, a few 3-credit core courses have been brought down to 1.5-credits or 2-credits. This has been done so that the gist of the subject can be taught to the students in as much little time as possible and to incorporate more emerging aspects of study in the MBA programme. He added that the total teaching hours have been brought down from 1200 hours to 1050 hours in keeping with the AICTE norms.
While stating that the MBA institute has not yet planned any out-of-campus activity for the freshers attending the orientation, Patra said, The orientation will focus on acquainting the MBA programme students with the life at XIMB campus. Many more facilities have been set up at the XIMB to provide the students with an enhanced teaching-learning environment. He added that the institute has also built a seven-storied academic-cum-administrative complex with 18 classrooms. The total study fee for this years PGDM programme at the MBA institute, situated at Xavier Square, Bhubaneshwar, is Rs 6.46 lakh.
