Prof. Rajendra Sisodia talks on Conscious Capitalism at IIM K Seminar

A series of seminars on Thought Leadership begins at IIMK
The Indian institute of Management (IIMK) Kozikode started the series of seminar on Thought Leadership as a part of its endeavor to achieve excellence and leadership in management education. The first seminar was held in IIMK campus on June 19, 2009 by Prof. Rajendra Sisodia on the topic Conscious Capitalism. Sisodia is Professor of Marketing at Bentley College, University of Bentley, USA and has a PhD in Marketing from Columbia University.

Sisodia, who is a part of a movement towards capitalism with a conscience, on Friday spoke to the IIMK students and professors on this fast emerging line of thought. Citing many instances of leading commercial organisations, Sisodia said, A higher sense of business purpose and holistic stakeholder orientation has put these organisations at the forefront of traditional performance indicators. These organizations are now even consistently beating the market over longer durations. In a fast changing market, only better alignment of all stakeholder interests and not just the shareholders will be the sole viable business model.

Appreciating Indian business houses like Tata, he said, By emphasizing more on conscious capitalism, India can ward off huge costs and trouble by avoiding the western blueprint to development. Today even the west is taking karma capital seriously. The session ended with an address of Dr. Debashis Chatterjee, Director of IIMK.

In 2003, Sisodia was cited as one of the 50 Leading Marketing Thinkers by the Chartered Institute of Marketing and his consulting clients include AT&T, BJs Wholesale, Perot Systems, Siemens, Sprint, and IBM.
As part of this seminar series, going forward, IIMK will invite leading thinkers and renowned personalities and academicians to share their thoughts on emerging challenges and opportunities in management education and sector.
