Learn from the competitive environment: Raman Roy

Global Talent Track organized a seminar on its launch of First Global Educentre in Delhi. Mr. Raman Roy and Dr. Ganesh Natarajan suggested ways to cope with the current economic situation.

Global Talent Track (GTT) launched the First Global Educentre in Delhi. The spokesperson for the event was Dr. Uma Ganesh, CEO of Global Talent Track. The Global Educentre was inaugurated by Mr. Raman Roy, CEO of Quattro. He was also the chief guest of the event. Another noted guest of the event was industry veteran Dr. Ganesh Natarajan, Global CEO of Zensar Technologies and Chairman of the National IT ITES and e Commerce Committee of the CII. The eminent guests and the spokesperson talked about the ongoing economic menace, recession which has left the students and freshers bewildered. They motivated them and suggested them ways to deal with the present situation along with giving them the hope that situation will definitely improve.

GTT is an initiative taken by experienced personalities in the industry in different sectors like IT, BPO, Banking etc, to transform skills into employability in India. It promised to provide high quality learning opportunities to over five lakh students in the country annually by 2012, thus increasing employability of the students. GTT also announced its first initiative in the area will be a comprehensive programme with Pune University in collaboration with Cisco.

Mr. Raman Roy, the first speaker of the day, started with the motivational tone by saying that Indian workforce is as capable and competent as their international counterpart. He appreciated the venture of GTT and said that The appetite of industry has grown so large that there are limited training opportunities. He talked about the problem which the industry faces is training the employees. Our education system is more tuned to Indian needs than global needs. We need to have more practice oriented pedagogy be it IT or finance sector.

Talking about the largely looming recession hit industry which has left the question in the minds of the students hovering about lack of jobs, Mr. Roy opined, in a way recession is good. This has given you time to think what you really want to do in life and educate yourself accordingly. Career counseling comes to great help if you yourself cant decide what you want from life. We needed a problem solving attitude. The training can be provided later. Thus, according to Mr. Roy, attitude is what matters and that should always remain positive.

While talking about recession, Mr. Roy said, the balance between demand and supply of trained workforce has gone down. This has happened, we cannot change the fact. But we can learn from the competitive environment. Here the competition is among skilled people whose supply has increased over the year. There are those people who are laid off from the industry along with the trained students who are yet to join. Mr. Roy asked the students to take the competition as a challenge and fight it back. He also assured that the recession will end in the near future. He believes in the fact, so much so that he ended up saying, I believe recession is coming to an end enough to invest money in my company.

Dr. Ganesh Natarajan spoke on the same lines as Mr. Raman Roy. He asked the students and the young workforce to focus on good communication skills. Either you have to be very good in marketing, communication or technical skills. These people never get laid off. Appreciating the venture of GTT, Dr. Natarajan said The availability of the entire range of employability skills imparting programs under one roof will make the GTT Global Educentre a single stop solution for the problems faced by young people in a depressed economy and a weak employment environment.
