They have diverse backgrounds with substantial work experience of 7-26 years in central and state administration, public and private sector enterprises, banks, etc. Their average work experience is 13 years and average age is 37 years. The average GMAT and CAT scores are 698.89 and 92.27 percentile respectively. The One-Year Post-Graduate Programme in Public Management and Policy (PGP-PMP) was launched in April 2007 by the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) with the objectives of conducting a high quality programme in public management for participants in their mid-career who wish to take up senior management positions in public management and policy and operationalizing IIMAs mission of improving the managerial practices both in the private and public sectors in India and other developing countries.

Says IIM A, In the context of this programme, public management is meant to include governance, management of public services, public enterprises, regulatory agencies/bodies, independent and statutory organizations, etc. As we are all aware, good public management and policy can come only out of clarity of objective and knowledge of how systems and social processes work. And, most important of all, policies have to be incentive compatible. We believe that much of the inadequacies in public management in India have arisen out of problems on the latter two counts. As such, this programme is geared towards developing a deeper understanding of issues such as regulation and management of both public and private enterprises and international organizations besides the leadership skills to change the framework of policy, regulation, and action.

PGP-PMP is a full-fledged executive MBA programme combining core business management and public management which will be on par with leading international executive programmes like those of the Kennedy School of Government, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, the Maxwell School, and the George Mason University. The programme is divided into five terms with the first two terms exclusively focusing on core management. The third term of the programme is a six to eight weeks international immersion module which exposes the participants to work practices in an environment different from those at home to further cross-country understanding.
