The objective of the conference was to discuss the role and importance of managing information technology for business value and to review the success of information technology on the applications and practices being followed in business. The theme of the conference was divided into three major parts i.e Application of Information Technology in Business, Global Competition & Competitiveness of Corporate and Corporate Survival Strategies. These were further sub divided into various themes such as e-commerce, legal issues and cyber laws, Information Quality, Knowledge management, Information Integrity, Corporate responsibility, WTO and global trade issues, TQM, Mapping competitive position, global strategy for leadership, cost control, etc.Prof DP Goyal, Director, IME, welcomed and the delegates. He highlighted on the theme as well as the proceedings of the two days conference. Prof KK Aggarwal, President, Computer Society of India and former Vice Chancellor, GGSIP University, Delhi, delivered the conference address. He pointed out, In todays competitive scenario, it is necessary to adopt a business strategy as per needs of the hour.
The role of business strategy in enhancing the competitive advantage of an organization can not be undermined. Many Indian industry and corporate could not sustain in this age of competition because they could not adopt business strategy suitable to prevailing requirements. He further highlighted that the foreign companies could get catch-hold of Indian market because they shaped and modified their business strategy as per requirement of Indian conditions. While giving his key-note address, Prof N Ramachandran, Director, IIM Indore, said, Information technology has brought revolutionary changes in the management of knowledge and information. Now global information can be received immediately. A corporate, just by pressing few buttons, can control and monitor national and global activities of his business house. Those corporate which could not do this they legged behind in the competitive scenario and their market capitalization slipped.
By citing some examples of corporate world, Prof. Ramachandran said, the status of an organization in competitive situations depends on the fact that how effectively it can utilize the available knowledge base. Both the guests released the Conference Proceedings.Prof. D. P. Goyal, Director, IME, introduced the main theme of the conference and the outline of technical sessions for the two days conference organized around varied topics. He further informed that about 200 papers were received for this conference out of which 73 papers have been selected for the presentation on the basis of double blind review.
The proceedings of this national conference have been published by Macmillan Publishing Company and the same have been provided to the delegates at the inaugural function. This would promote research culture at IME, said Prof. D. P. Goyal. In this national conference, experts of their own respective field have come together on a common platform to expose, discuss and suggest the management of information technology for the corporate survival in global competitiveness. Besides participants from the NCR, intellectuals, academicians and researchers from far-flung areas and their Institutes like IIT Roorkee, SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai, IIM Indore, GGSIP University, Delhi, University of Delhi, Delhi, IIFT, New Delhi, Punjabi University, Patiala, IIM Lucknow, MDI Gurgaon, H.P. University Shimla, Galgotia Business School, Greater Noida etc. participated actively all the technical sessions of the Conference.
