Indian Students to participate in Worlds Largest Student Investment Forum

The event was organised by Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) and the University of Dayton, Ohio, USA, on February 2, 2009.

The first winner received a paid trip, including all expenses, to participate in the worlds largest student investment forum, R.I.S.E. IX (Redefining Investment Strategy Education) to be held on March 26-28, 2009, at the University of Dayton, Ohio, USA. Besides the trip, the winner also got a cash prize worth Rs. 5000 and the Mindful Leadership Rolling Trophy 2009. The second winner also received an all-expenses paid trip to R.I.S.E forum, a cash prize worth Rs. 3500 and a certificate of commendation. Allen Baby, full-time PGDBM (2nd year), LIBA, Chennai won the Bronze medal, a free trip to the LIBA Mother Teresa award function later this year and a certificate.

After receiving close to 100 entries the judges reviewed the case studies and short listed the 10 best papers. The ten candidates were invited to LIBA to convince the judges and present their case study.

The competition was open to undergraduate and graduate students from across India. The theme for this years paper presentation was corruption-free nation: The mission for new generation leaders.

Mr. N. Vittal, former vigilance commissioner, Dr. S. Venkataraman, VP Human Resource Delphi TVS, Dr. Lodewijk Berlage, professor at University of Leuvn, Belgium, Mr. Mike Murphy, lecturer at University College Cork, Ireland, Dr. Paul Fernandes, professor, XLRI, Dr. John Alexander, professor, LIBA (Jury Coordinator), were the judges for the competition.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr. P. Christie, director, LIBA, said, The young minds have given us strong hope that the nation is in safe hands in the journey towards a prosperous and corrupt-free nation. The solutions displayed and proposed by the contestants were thoughtful, unique and reflected the diversity in the spectrum of potential solutions.

Dr. Matthew Shank, dean of School of Business Administration, University of Dayton, congratulated the winners and said, These winners are the business leaders of the future generation. They will have a historic opportunity to set high ethical standards that will extend across international boundaries, creating a climate in which trust and business opportunity can flourish globally. At the R.I.S.E forum, the winning students will encounter some of the most advanced and successful applied investment management programmes in the USA.
