ICWAI to focus on Enterprise Governance during the Golden Jubilee year

On face of the recent economic turmoil and Satyam debacle, ICWAI will launch new programmes and courses during the year to promote stronger enterprise governance and accounting procedures.

During his lecture Prof. Kalam congratulated ICWAI and said, ICWAI has played a crucial role in nurturing the accounting talent and practices in India. It gives me pleasure to be a part of this proud occasion for entire nation. I must congratulate everyone present here on providing the industry with skilled management accountants over the years.

On the occasion, Mr. Kunal Banerjee, President ICWAI said, As I look back I see the value that the Institute has provided to the country and in the same breadth also see the tasks that Institute will have to gear up to meet the challenges of these tough times.

In the changed economic environment the emphasis has to shift to efficiency review. Today for an organization to survive, it has to thrive in commercial environment keeping in view the interests and concerns of every stakeholder in the business. The understanding of corporate governance has to change. In our view, governance structure has to expand its horizon to include a system that ensures optimal utilization of resources for the benefit of shareholders while meeting societal expectations. There has to be a shift from compliance or rule based governance to a performance management framework with enterprise governance in mind. Said Mr. Kunal Banerjee in his address to the august gathering.

The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) is the recognized statutory professional organization and licensing body in India specializing exclusively in Cost and Management Accountancy. ICWAI is a premier professional body of Management Accountants in the Country established on 28th May, 1959 under the Cost and Works Accountants Act, 1959 as amended by the Cost and Works Accountants (Amendment) Act, 2006 enacted by the parliament to regulate the profession of Cost and Management Accountancy in India.
