Rishav Jain and Shipra Bhalla from SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai emerged victorious in the prestigious Annual Debate Competition organised by Business Today.
The Jury consisted of the Chief Economist of the Aditya Birla Group (ABG), the Editor of Business Today (BT), Publishing Director Business Today and CEO and Founder of Naukri.com.
Debate got off to a magnificent start with the first Semi final between IIFT- Delhi and IIM-Bangalore. The topic was Cut Prices, not Production in a Downturn. Closely contested, the participants were grilled first by each other, then by the judges and last but not the least by Harsha Bhogle, with his unmatched wit.
The second semi final between IIFT, Kolkata and SP Jain was debated on Voluntary freeze is a good way to help your company fight slowdown. Both the teams very eloquently put their points forth and stuck to their stand vehemently. IIM, Bangalore and S.P.Jain qualified for the national finals of BT Acumen 2008, and it was all the more special because both the teams had qualified for the BT National Debate finals for the first time.
The final was a scintillating experience as both teams debated passionately and at the same time handled the jury questions articulately. Finally the Team from SPJIMR emerged as worthy champions.
Rishav and Shipra are First Year PGDM Students at SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai and had initially won the BT Acumen Western Zone Finals back in Sept08.
