Leadership in times of Crisis: CII Summit on HR offers a roadmap

Mr S Ramadorai, CEO & Managing Director Tata Consultancy Services at the HR Summit on Leadership Challenges for a secure future organizedby the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Mumbai on December 15.
Mr Ramadorai, in his keynote address recommended a strategic plan including the following elements to meet the challenge of ensuring a secured future:

Preventive mechanism: This includes investment in intelligence mechanism to secure Indias shores, airports and land boundaries which are currently highly porous;
Crisis management mechanism: To ensure that security forces are in a state of readiness and build an action plan to deal with any kind of crisis;
Risk assessment: Study of country boundaries and assessing the risks attached;
International Co-operation mechanisms: To collectively raise voices on terrorism and bring it to on a global platform;

Private sector to support the government to build a national plan:India Inc. to utilize its expertise in technology to work in agreement with the Government to chalk out a national security plan.
Citizens awakening and awareness building: To create citizens awareness programmes aiming at training in first aid, fire safeguards and survival procedures to make them more vigilant and aware.

While emphasizing the critical role of public private partnership in securing citizens, Mr Ramadorai said that shifting responsibility of securing citizens to private sector by equipping personnel with fire arms to ensure an acceptable level of security should be given a serious thought. He also stressed on the role of education to avoid misguidance of the youngsters. Mr Ramadorai further recommended creation of a database by combining and pooling together of technology and data to create systems and processes for ensuring security.

Explaining the significance of creating a sense of connectivity and responsibility among citizens was Mr Anil Sachdev, Conference Chairman & Founder and CEO School of Inspired Leadership. There is a strong co-relation between economic crisis and terrorism. By creating a pool of responsible leaders, we can ensure a secured future, stressed Mr Sachdev.
Mr Pradeep Mallick, Past Chairman CII Western Region called upon the participants to encourage value based, just and true leadership. Do not give up the challenge of building a secure India by the front. In order to make India the second or third largest economy in the world, the challenge is to build accountable leaders, said Mr Mallick.
