Thats the message that emerged from Mr. Tejpreet S. Chopra, President & CEO, GE India, who delivered the inaugural address at FMS Annual Convention.
Delhi Universitys Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) held its Annual Convention on the theme of Indian Leaders in the New Millennium on December 7, 2008. MBAUniverse.com is the Official Management Portal of this convention.
Addressing the FMS students, Mr Chopra said, Students like you are lucky to study in best of institutions. You should think big and make a difference to yourself and also your society and nation.
Drawing from his rich corporate experience, Mr Chopra offered a few words of wisdom to young management graduates on how they can excel. Mr Chopras lessons to graduate are:
a) Think Big: You are a privileged lot and you can make a big impact.
b) Develop Mentors: Your mentors can be your boss or faculty member.
c) Teamwork is key in corporate life
d) Develop Leadership attitude and mindset
e) Take challenges, and dont be afraid to fail
f) And, finally, excel in something beyond academics
Sharing an anecdote from his personal life, Mr Chopra said: At GE my boss, who was like my mentor, would put me into the most challenging assignments. And I used to crib about it! Only later did I realize that these early challenges helped me shape up as a leader. When the opportunity for leading Indian operations arose a year back, my mentor called up the top leadership of GE and helped my case.
Having held various business roles over a period of 15 years in France, England, Hong Kong, India and USA, Mr Chopra has considerable management and global finance experience to this position. Prior to assuming his current role, Tejpreet served as President & CEO of GE Commercial Finance in India. During his tenure he successfully restructured and expanded the business hereby establishing GE Commercial Finance as one of the premier financial institutions in India. He graduated from The Lawrence School, Sanawar. Tejpreet holds a MBA degree from Cornell University and a B.A. Honors degree in Economics from St. Stephens College, Delhi University.
