Institute of Management Education to organize conference on Supply Chain Management

The conference will have speakers from industry and leading academic institutions like IIT Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, IIFT and others. The conference chair is Prof D P Goyal, Director, IME while the Conference Co-chair is Prof Siddharth Varma.

The inaugural address at the conference shall be given by Mr Amit Kumar, President GatewayRails while the keynote address shall be given by Mr Vikram Seth, MD, Sakata Inx. The conference shall include not only presentations by the participants but also invited talks by prominent industry personalities which would provide practical inputs regarding supply chain management in real life. Prominent industry speakers include Mr Nirmal Sahijwani, VP, Operations, Mirza International, Mr Amit Sahni, GM(North), Mr A.K. Sahni, Yang Ming Line, Mr Arvind Sharma, Head Supply Chain, Devyani International, Mr Vijay Sharma, Head Domestic Marketing, Jindal Stainless and Dr VijayV Mandke from Centre of Information Integrity. SCMCC-08 will provide a platform to academicians from prominent educational institutions like Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi,Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, Narsee Monjee, Mumbai, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi and Thapar University are participating. Industry participation includes organizations like Cognizant Technologies, I2 Technologies, NIC and SAP India.

Says IME, Supply chain management is now recognized as essential for any business organization to survive and compete in the cut-throat competition today. It involves the effective management of the complete set of activities from purchasing raw material to delivery of finished product to the customer. The conference will provide an opportunity to academicians, industry practitioners, students and policy makers to come together and exchange their views on the subject of supply chain management.

More than a hundred papers were received against the call for papers for the conference. These papers were blind reviewed and a total of forty nine papers were selected for inclusion in the proceedings of the conference. The papers being included cover various aspects of supply chain management like information technology, knowledge management, collaborations; and spread over supply chains of various sectors like agriculture, floriculture and petroleum The proceedings of the conference are being published in the form of a book by Macmillan India Ltd.
