Thats the strong message given by Mr Vijay Thadani, Chairman, CII Education Committee & Chief Executive Offer, NIIT Limited. Mr Thadani was speaking on the theme of Skills Development Linkages with Education at CII Global on Skills Development on September 17, 2008.
Addressing the skills shortage problem in India, Mr Thadani said, In India, we have many educated people but they are very less skilled people. The main concern is how do we create lot of skills and increase range of skills in unskilled people.
Envisioning a day when India would be the skills capital of the world, Mr Thadani said, There is need to build bridges between industry, education, system and skill providers. There is also need to build soft skills as demanding by the new evolving global culture.
Mr Thadani shared the points on imperatives for success and said, Industry, education, skills and society are the four islands which have to be connected, we need to plan demand and supply of skills. Private sector cooperation and public-private partnerships are essential; and finally Government should play the facilitator role.
Mr Thadani in his concluding address said that everyone should have both knowledge and skills, these two should not be separate entities.
