Strategym, the Annual Business Convention of JBIMS is in its 15th year and promises to be bigger and better than before, says JBIMS. Strategym is a platform for talented students to showcase their acumen to the outside world. In sync with this Strategym provides JBIMS students with an opportunity to present their research papers on diverse topics and has luminaries from industry to judge these papers. The icing on the cake is the fact that in many cases these papers have been used and implemented by the corporate world.
The theme for Strategym 2008 is Hope-In todays age of turbulence. The thought behind theme stems from the fact that everyone can provide ideas and innovation but what sets JBIMS students apart is their ability to come up with thoughts and solutions that can empower seemingly hopeless situations. With this theme in their minds teams came all cylinders firing for the Strategym 2008 Eliminations. The unique theme gave them a chance to explore a plethora of areas ranging from Social Security in India, Revamping Indian railways to Overhauling Kirana stores and Home Equity liquidation. Innovation in topics themselves was also seen in form of papers such as Connecting Bharat.As Vishal Desai, part of the team presenting on Social Security in India rightly pointed out Good managers provide great solutions to industry problems.
The event was judged by Prof. Sydney Prabhu. He alumnus of the JBIMS batch of 1967.Prof. Prabhu was as always in his elements and gave brilliant insights on each topic as the event unfolded. As the day went ahead teams one by one presented their ideas which were appreciated by one and all.
After a long day filled with loads of quality, the list of the finalists was announced. The papers which will be presented at Strategym 2008 Finals are as follows:
1. Diagnosing corporate sickness
2. Weather Derivatives
3. Social Security in India
4. Reorganizing Indian retail
5. Indian railways: What next?
6. Economic footprinting
7. Home equity liquidation
8. Connecting Bharat
As expressed by Preetesh Dixit, the Chairperson of the Strategym Committee The quality of papers is so high for the elimination round itself, one can only imagine the quality that will be seen at the final round.
The Strategym finals will take place in the third week of October.
