Unite4action, or U4A, tries to bridge the resource gap in social sector and caters those professionals and students who feel like contributing to society, but dont know from where to start.
U4A endeavour seeks to bring such socially sensitive people and NGOs on one platform so that they can connect with each other. It also ensures privacy for those who dont want to disclose their personal details and one doesnt have to be a full time worker to be associated with it. One can contribute according to his/her own capacity, interest and limitation i.e. one can opt for any activity ranging from participating in forums to weekend consultancy to bearing water cannons, if one desires to do so.
The initiative was conceived in association with Pragati, the social work club of IIM Indore. The idea struck Maninder Mann when he and his friends were searching for an NGO working on RTI and couldnt find one.
The initiative is a not-for-profit one. Plans are in place to financially sustain the site through sponsorships. All financial transactions would be made open to the public.
Currently, it has a database of volunteers spread over various geographies, but limited mostly to big cities as yet. However, considering the growing response that this site is receiving, it is expected that word would spread to other points with internet connectivity as well.
