NR Narayana Murthy offers Institution Building lesson at ISB Hyderabad

Mr. Murthy addressed the student fraternity and extended community at the ISB on how to build and sustain institutions. He also underscored the importance of corporations in creating a social impact.

Said Mr Murthy, Entrepreneurs today have a responsibility. There is a need to percolate the benefits of all the growth and wealth we are seeing to the vast majority of India. As entrepreneurs we need to be able to make a difference and impact on the neglected Indian. Todays environment is full of possibilities and one that engenders confidence. Its the first time in over 300 years that something as extra-ordinary as this is engulfing India. It is the responsibility of the youth to make sure that this growth and recognition becomes sustainable. This inclusive growth is achievable only if more and more people become entrepreneurs and create greater opportunities.

Mr. Murthy also highlighted to the audience that the key to every successful corporation was generating respect among all its stakeholders shareholders, customers, employees, partner vendors, the government and society. He said this would ensure that the corporation worked on the soundest principles, was driven by values and yet was profitable.

Speaking on Mr Murthys visit to the campus, Dean M Rammohan Rao said, Industry leaders like N R Narayana Murthy are role models for students and faculty alike. His approach to business and entrepreneurship is as simple as it is difficult to implement. He is a torch bearer who impresses as he inspires.

Students at the Indian School of Business appreciated the hands-on nature of advice Mr. Murthy shared with them. Speaking on the occasion, Ashish Handa, one of the ISB students said, His perspective on leaders leading by example inspired me. I would like be an entrepreneur and his mantra of fairness, transparency and accountability is my key take away from the session.

His comments were echoed by another student Payal Goel who said, I was deeply motivated by Mr. Murthys comment on how a leaders primary role was that of a transformation agent. That defines my sense of a man who embodies leadership.
Mr. Murthy is one of the Founding members of the Executive Board of the ISB. He has made an immense contribution in education, infrastructure and policy matters in the formative years of the ISB, says the institution.
