Then thats the kind of company that TATA-NEN Start-up Awards are looking to recognize.
NEN will recognize five Coolest Startups. NEN is launching TATA-NEN Startup Awards, the community-chosen awards for Indian start-ups. NEN will launch the awards in August, 2008. The shortlist will be declared in October, and winners declared end of November, will be profiled in December 2008. The Selection process includes nominations, shortlist, campaign and voting.
Talking about the rationale behind the launch, NEN says, There are three reasons why NEN is launching these awards. Establish the coolness: Start-ups are cool but thats still a minority opinion. And if start-ups are to succeed more easily, more people need to think they are cool, including potential customers, employees. So lets showcase to the world what and why startups are cool. Broad-base the participation: We need to broad-base the attention, and bring in start-ups from all sectors and smaller cities. Let the community rule: We think its time for the community to have a voice in startup awards. No more behind-closed-doors selection of winners!
Winners get both publicity and business development help, says NEN. Winners receive their trophies at the NEN Entrepreneurship Week Closing Ceremony on February 14, 2009. Winners will be profiled in media. At their choice, winners get matched to one of Indias top 7 incubators; introduced to angels or VCs; and/or connected to industry experts. They are also invited to participate in NEN Startup Jobs, to help them hire top young talent.
Focused on cause of promoting entrepreneurship, NEN partners with 370+ top academic institutes to build their entrepreneurship programs; has helped establish 245 student entrepreneurship clubs; and engages and supports over 55,000 new and future entrepreneurs across 30 cities of India. In addition, NEN works closely with other associations that support entrepreneurial growth in India.
TATA NEN awards will draw support from a host of partners including HT Mint, DARE, Microsoft, Smart Techie, Open Coffee Club, Proto.in, Startup.in, TiE, Indian Angel Network, Mumbai Angels, The Chennai Fund, webyantra and Cool Avenues.
