IIM-A Prof Dr Raghuram part of government panel to study airline industry crisis

Infrastructure expert and Indian Railways Chair Professor at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) Prof G Raghuram is part of the panel.

The Committee, to be headed by Cabinet Secretary, would have Secretaries of the Ministries of Finance, Civil Aviation, Revenue, Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Planning Commission, IDFC Chairman Deepak Parekh and Dr Raghuram.
The decision to set up this committee was a fall out of the meeting between Indian aviation industry leaders, led by Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss various aspects of the crisis.

The Indian airlines together suffered an estimated loss of Rs 4,000 crore last year, which is expected to double this financial year. At least 24 airlines the world over have folded up in the past six months, according to IATA figures.

The panel, which has been asked to submit its recommendation at the earliest possible, would examine and assess the financial difficulties, consider the global scenario and practices followed by other governments and airlines.

Prof Raghuram is a noted expert in infrastructure management, Transportation Policy and Management and supply chain management area. He was associated with the turnaround story of Indian Railways when he documented the same in form an IIM-A case. He has authored several books in the area including Supply Chain Management: Concepts and Cases and Logistics and Supply Chain Management: Cases and Concepts.
