Green is the new mantra at ISB

On this occasion students of ISB welcomed Shrenik Rao, an environment activist, to the campus. Rao is in the midst of a cycling tour from Kanyakumari to Kashmir to increase awareness of the need to conserve the environment. He visited the ISB to discuss with students his perspective on conserving the environment.

Participating in the event, Shrenik said, I am happy that the ISB students realise the significance of conserving the environment. Conserving the environment has become a must for all of us as a community.

The Net Impact Club at ISB pledged to effectively implement the initiatives such as increase awareness and inspire change among fellow students, staff and faculty; energize the campus by turning out the lights when not required; reduce printing waste by making duplex printing the default setting; manage wastes by segregating waste for efficient re-cycling and less plastic by using minimal plastic on a daily basis.

Rohit Kapoor, President of the Graduate Student Board (GSB) at the ISB, announced a number of Green Initiatives that will be driven by the student community at the ISB. The students also took a pledge to create a greener ISB. Leading the pledge, Rohit Kapoor said, The mantra for the Class of 2009 is to create and sustain a cleaner and greener ISB. This will be the driving force for all activities and initiatives. This will be a legacy that we will hand over to future students at ISB.

ISB has implemented several environmental and energy saving initiatives. The school has made efforts to keep the ecosystem unharmed and with each passing year more trees are planted. Initiatives like recycling water on a large scale for landscaping purposes and installation of solar powered water heaters are a few of the green initiatives on campus. Going forward, the school will promote sustainable and innovative efforts to make the campus greener.

Shrenik and the students participated in a tree planting ceremony and a slow cycling race. Several trees have been planted by students, staff and faculty across the campus under this initiative.
