DMS IIT Delhi organizes Horizen 15 HR Conclave

The Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi successfully organized Horizon 15, the annual Human Resource Conclave, on September 26, 2015. The first session of the event focused on the theme Employee Growth in times of Economic Growth - Devising the firms hiring, training and development agenda. The panel was headed by Prof. Dr. Kanika T Bhal, Head of the Department, DMS, and the panel comprised the following eminent personalities from the industry:
Ms. Alka Gulati, Director-HR & Admin, Hughes Communications India Limited Mr. Adil Nargolwala, Senior GM, HR, WNS Global Services Ms. Rakhee Malik, Head HR, AT Kearney Mr. Sandeep Kumar, Country Manager- Client Technical Architects, IBM Ms. Namrata Gill Tyagi, VP-HR, Dr Reddys Ms. Anushree Singh, HR Leader - Commercial for South Asia region, Avery Dennison
The session took off with an introductory talk by the panel chair Prof. Bhal, where she expressed her views about how the theme of the session plays relevance from the business perspective in terms of relating human development with the economic growth of an organization. She emphasized the essentiality of getting a concentrated dose of the happenings in the current industry along with the subjective knowledge gained from the books.
After the brief introduction by Prof. Bhal, the panelists shared their insightful views on the theme; Ms. Alka Gulati mentioned that the topic is the need of the hour based on the importance of hiring in any organization.Mr. AdilNargolwala, shared his views relating to his experience, working in different roles starting from being an entrepreneur to his current position in the HR field. Sharing her thoughts on the topic of the session, Ms. Rakhee Malik citing the example of e-commerce industry, mentioned how disruptions can cause a change in the industrial trends with respect to employee shift across organizations. Mr. Sandeep Kumar then gave a motivational talk to the management students in terms of the relevance they must possess to succeed over the various challenges that are to come once they step into competitive world.Ms. Namrata Gill Tyagi discussed few parameters required for hiring, where knowledge, fluidity to work in different cultures and the individual passion are of utmost importance.Moving on, Ms. Anushree Singhpresented her views on the various new-age employment challenges and opportunities in terms of the simplicity, provision of right environment and also the relevance aspect.Overall, the session was an enriching experience for the management students in the field of human resource.
The post lunch session focused on the theme: Local Leaders drive Global Success - Glocalization spurs HR to rethink hiring, operating models. Dr. Shuchi Sinha acted as the panel chair for the session and the panel comprised the below eminent leaders from the industry:
Ms. ShwetaSrivastava, Head of Talent Acquisition India, Indus Towers Limited Mr. Rajnesh Khosla, Head-HR, LG Ms. Ruchita Sharma, Director HR, Fidelity Worldwide Investment Mr. Sandeep Kumar, Country Manager- Client Technical Architects, IBM Mr. Navneet Prasad, Director HR, KPMG Mr. Abhishek Mishra, Head HR, India Downstream, Shell India
The panel chair, Dr. Shuchi Sinha, structured the discussion by collecting the student expectations from this session. The panelists shared their insightful views on those areas. Ms. Shweta, mentioning the importance of values in an organization, quoted that One gets hired based on their competency and skills etc., but one gets fired for the violation of values. Mr. Navneet, throwing some light on his work at KPMG, mentioned the key challenges in maintaining the trust of the public.Rewinding his memories with IIT Delhi, Mr. Rajnesh opined that there are no local leaders, but only global leaders and if at all one thinks in the view of just being a local leader, ones existence as a leader is at stake.Mr. Sandeep Kumar, then expressed his views of how important it is to be essential for an employee to survive in the global competition. Highlighting the various factors for driving the business, Mr. Abhishek Mishra mentioned that consumer needs diverse workforce and technology inclusivity play an important role for any organization. Ms. Ruchita opined that the machine has replaced the labor in many industries; and a day will come when a machine replaces the managers with the ever growing outbursts in technology.
The session ended with each of the panelists sharing insightful and motivational stories out of their experiences in industry and life. Overall the session was an enriching experience for the management student of DMS, IIT Delhi.
