CII to host international conclave on Skill Development

The conclave will draw on the international learnings and models in the area of skill development, an area that is attracting a lot of government and industry attention.

Some of the speakers at the conclave include Mr. Vijay Thadani, Chairman, CII Education Committee and CEO, NIIT; Mr. Oscar Fernandes, Union Minister of State, (Labour & Employment Independent Charge) Government of India; Mr. Krishan Khanna, Chairman & Founder, i Watch; Dr. Naresh Malhan, Managing Director, Manpower India; Mr. Manish Sabarwal, Chairman, TeamLease and Dr. Balachandra Mungekar, Member Planning Commission Government of India.

Says CII, With Indias magnificent economic boom comes another opportunity, which till very recently was viewed as a concern & reason for underdevelopment the excess population. It is this opportunity which India needs to leverage. Adds CII, In realizing this opportunity, the challenges are huge. The huge drop-out rates, large unorganized sector, exploitation & under-employment of labour, a large pool of semi skilled & mostly unskilled labour, little or no avenues for the women folk, no direct linkage with the Industry requirements are some issues which make Skills Development a necessary action.

CII conclave will be aimed at understanding of International models, policy initiatives, programs and delivery agendas in the arena of skills development. India needs to absorb from the global experiences success & failures to re-invent and strategize for skills delivery. Across the world economies have fast realized the importance of skills and so special focus as been given to education & training at all levels. It is thus imperative for India to build partnerships and utilize experiences of the world leaders, says CII.

The faculty for the conclave will be drawn from senior experts from leading international organizations like ILO, C&G, WorldSkills International, Heads of skilling organizations from UK, Brazil, Australia and pan Asia, Policy & Decision makers from over ten ministries from India and Training Providers Consultants, Industry endorsed programs, Quality Certification agencies, Training Institutions.

CII has been playing an active part in skill development arena. In Oct 2004, CII had launched a nation-wide Skills Development Initiative in India to provide internationally benchmarked skills to the current and potential Indian work force. This is with a view to train large numbers of people across sectors, in various skills, to meet national requirements for skilled workers.
