Chairman, Boston Consulting Group, while addressing FMS students and corporate executives at FMS annual convention on December 2.
Encouraged by a full house support to his questions, Mr Maira said, Future of Indian business is in sustainable growth that creates a new paradigm. Young management students should lead this new quest.
To explain his thrust on profitable yet sustainable and inclusive growth, Mr Maira gave several examples. One such example was of Gurgaon based Kegg Farms.
Established in 1967, Keggfarms is one of the oldest poultry breeding organisations of India. The genetic research work done by Keggfarms is recognised by Department of Science and Technology since mid 70s.
Keggfarms has developed an indigenous variety of chicken, trademarked as Kuroiler, which can feed on kitchen wastes and dumpyards, and yet remain healthy. These young chics are given away to NGO who further give them to farmers who rear them in their villages. After rearing them, these farmers can then sell the chickens back to Kegg Farms at a healthy price. Kegg Farms then sells these to customers as organic chickens which fetch a higher price.
Said Mr Maira, This business model builds value not just for the corporate, but for people who are living at the fringes of our society. It is a great inclusive model to follow.
Encouraging management graduate to think beyond profits and salaries, Mr Maira said, If India has to be a poverty free nation that gives sustainable ideas to the world, you will have the major role to play.
