Competition gets tougher: Number of CAT applicants increase by more than 20 percent

Going by the number of Common Admission Test (CAT) application forms sold this time, the organizers of CAT say that CAT takers will increase by more than 20 per cent compared to last year.

Prof Ashish K Bhattacharyya, chairman of admissions, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and spokesperson of CAT group, shared this information with MBAUniverse.com. Said Prof Bhattacharyya: In total, 2.4 lakh forms have been sold this year and about 2.3 lakh applicants have filled up forms and sent them back to us.

According to the IIMs, last year a 1.92 lakh forms were sold and about 1.76 lakh aspirants took the exam. The last date of submission of CAT application forms this year was September 8, 2007.

Prof Bhattacharyya added, We analyzed that the CAT takers have increased by more than 20% this year in comparison to last year.

Refusing to divulge any details about the CAT 2007 pattern he said, We cant say anything about what students should expect from CAT 2007. It should remain confidential.
