FMS HR Conclave: Right talent is the key to success for corporates, says Prof J K Mitra

in a business scenario, and emphasized on quickly recognizing the right kind of talent for winning the war for talent during the FMS HR Conclave on Septemeber 1.This conclave was divided into two sessions; eminent HR corporate heads including Mr P K Sinha, GM-HR, Raymonds; Ms Gauri Sarin, President, Approach International; Dr Sunil Abrol DG, CDC; and Mr Venkateshwara, Director, Track Resources addressed the Summit that had HR Challenge: Winning the war of talent in the areas of manufacturing and services as its theme.

In his keynote address, Prof Mitra said, Whether it is manufacturing or services, the focus must be to find out the right talent who can add value to the organization and work. These people develop and grow fast and can also work towards various competencies.

While outlining the changing work scenario, he talked about the changes in several areas -- systems, people, ethos, execution style and design. The twentieth century was very fragmented and disjointed while today it is holistic and interconnected, he said. Likewise, earlier people used to be production workers while today they are knowledge workers.

Adding to Prof Mitras point, Mr P K Sinha, in his address, said, War for talent is a competition between organizations where they are hiring at speed. So it becomes very important to increase the speed of hiring along with right talent We lose the race if we are not able to identify the right talent at the right time.

One big HR concern is attrition. Ms Gauri Sarin advised: By engaging talent we can retain talent. With this we also need to address the issues that talent is facing. The role of HR is to continuously sense what employees think and want.
