Focusing on the human values in management, IMI will undertake a series of initiatives in October to take contributions from the corporate world, faculty members and students themselves. These initiatives will be organized by the IMI-Spandan Center for Human Values.
To begin with, IMI will organize an essay-writing-cum-paper-presentation competition on human values for students on October 3. This will be chaired by Prof Ishwar Dayal, former director, IIM Lucknow. Students will talk about their experience about and also speak their mind on the theme: If I were to teach Human Values to youngsters. According to IMI, This competition aims to sensitize prospective professionals on the role of human values in their professional life and work situations so that they are able to achieve and maintain an optimal balance between their professional goals and organizational needs.
This will be followed by a three-day workshop for faculty members on Developing Source Book and Modules for Teaching Human Values based on Indian Ethos, Insights, Experiences, Practices, and Approaches between October 4 and 6.
The workshop will discuss three issues: Status-report-stock-taking evolving modules; interface with industry and a panel discussion on How companies create and cascade values; and research in human values. Participants will discuss and share the present status of teaching and research in human values in their own institutions, their views on a suitable module for human values in management along with the existing syllabus or syllabi of courses on human values taught at their own institutions.
We will also develop a research agenda and network with common methodologies and tools for representative empirical investigation on related theme(s), adds Dr C S Venkat Ratnam Director of IMI, Delhi.
Founded by a small group of industrial organizations, management institutions and individuals in 2002, Spandan aims at propagation and inculcation of human values as integral to work ethics and culture.
IMI was established in 1981 as an autonomous non-profit educational society, in collaboration with the International Management Institute, Geneva, to meet the need for internationally oriented management education and training at all levels in industry, government and public systems.
