Mr. Vishvanathan -- an alumnus of IIT Roorkee, with a Masters degree in Seismology -- spoke about the requirement of defining a project: how a project is planned, how it is reviewed and how information is communicated within a team. He also talked about the importance of the Project Charter and the knack that project managers should possess to envision unforeseen risks and formulate solutions to tackle them with available resources. Citing his personal examples in the IT industry, he emphasized the need of planning and keeping provisions for constant change while adapting to a specific model of project development.
The session enlightened the students of the importance of proper project planning and management and how MBAs fit in the Project Management role in general and the software industry in particular. Overall, it was a great learning experience for wannabe project managers and gave them the insider perspective about the IT industry, said FMS.
