Under the UNDP-supported Leadership and Managerial Proficiency program (LAMP), Bhubaneshwar-based Xavier Institute of Management (XIM B) provided six-weeks of formal training in management skills to HIV positive participants -- and awarded them diplomas.
According to XIM B, The objective of this program was to empower HIV-positive people by enriching them in managerial skills in order to help them lead a meaningful life with self-dignity and advocating for the cause of HIV-infected people like them.
The LAMP graduation was held on August 6 at the XIM B campus. Representatives from 30 organizations like UNDP and National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) were present on the occasion. Faculty members, students of XIMB and guests turned up in large numbers.
The felicitation started with awarding the toppers of all the four batches -- with a citation and cash prize. NACO representative Ms. Jyotsna Soke presented the two awards for overall excellence. The whole passing out batch was presented certificates by Chief Guest Ms. Maxine Olson, the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative. Ms. Olson appreciated the courage the HIV-positive participants and XIMB displayed for daring to be different and taking up such a critical and relevant cause.
XIM B Director E. Abraham expressed hope that the training the participants had received would stand them in good stead in all that they do in life.
XIM B had chosen to be a part of this endeavor becoming the first partner of UNDP in India. The six-week LAMP program was launched seven months ago, and attracted participants from all over India.
