FMS grads learn lessons from China

In a Indian and Chinese government lead initiative, Viral Nagar and Ankita Mehta from FMS were part of delegation which had participants from fields as varied as sports, Chinese language students, social workers, students of performing arts, engineers and management students and youth with special abilities.

Viral and Ankita visited Tsinghua University, Yunnan University, Nanjing university of aeronautics and astronomies at China and the much famed and oft-modeled Beijing Economic and Technology Development Zone. They also visited Pharma companies, manufacturing plants and software parks.

Impressed with the Chinese economy and business environment, Viral said, I could not help wonder at the entrepreneurial spirit of the Chinese.

He adds, Everywhere you go, there is a conscious attempt to brand China. As the country seeks to establish itself globally and attracts more foreign investors and tourists, the need is felt to shed off its Asian image and don a brand new cosmopolitan look. I have not seen or heard of a branding exercise of this magnitude earlier.

Anita while sharing her experiences says that China is different from Indian management education. Executive MBA is a rage in China. People learn to manage their work lives, family lives and their managerial education as well. This automatically makes them better managers, says Anita.

After interacting with Chinese students, Ankita adds, Surprisingly, their education system is very similar. They follow the similar ways of markings through projects and examinations. The difference is that they have huge campuses and all types of schools - arts, engineering, management nestled in them, something akin to our very own Delhi University.
