Summer internships: IMT students get insights into the corporate world

Speaking to MBAUniverse.com, Sajja Praveen Chowdhary, a PGDBM (International Marketing) student of IMT, interning with in DTZ, says, Summer trainings are a good time to know the ins and outs of the corporate world. Hitesh Malhotra, whos pursuing PGDBM (International Business) at IMT, and interning at Dabur Pharma adds, My summer project is a practical application of what we studied in college.

At IMT, each student is required to undergo an eight-week summer training at leading corporations by undertaking a project of direct relevance to the concerned organization. IMT interns at Dabur Pharma are working on projects like, Design & Development of a Selection Assessment Model, Designing of Marketing Plan and Do the Situational Analysis of Central Asian Oncology Market while interns at Union Bank of India are working on projects like Credit Appraisal (Risk Management); the DTZ intern is working on a market research project to design a Real Estate Price Index for the Indian real estate commercial market.

Said Praveen, I am getting to know the practical way of doing market research and finding out how a job in a real estate company would be.

During the time of training, students come in contact with many people and get an opportunity to interact with their seniors in the company. Says Praveen, During the project and before we started the project, our seniors guided us.
Mandeep Singh, whos interning at Union Bank of India says, It helps us understand banking and the practical difficulties involved.

Says Ankur, an IMT student pursuing PGDBM (HR), whos interning at Dabur Pharma, The experience is application-based where we get more personal attention from project guides. There is no cramming of concepts There is more emphasis on analysis and interpretation and we have more scope for innovation.

If students do very well in the companies during internship, their chances of selection during pre placement policies (PPOs) also increases. Says Praveen, The company has offered PPOs to all the 4 students who interned with them this summer.

While the graduates get to know the ins and outs of the corporate world, they get paid too. Pay packages range between Rs 8,000 and Rs 10,000 per month. Praveen is getting Rs 8,000 as a stipend, while Ankur, Hitesh and Mandeep are getting Rs 10,000.
