ISB Dean M Rao elected to GMACs new board of directors

His tenure will start from July 1, 2007. The elections for this prestigious post were held on May 1, 2007.

Established in 1953, GMAC is a not-for-profit education association dedicated to assessing and promoting the value of management education. It is composed of representatives from leading business schools worldwide. According to GMAC, The organization began as an association of nine business schools whose goal was to develop a standardized test to help business schools select qualified applicants.

GMAC is also the provider of GMAT, the widely used assessment for Graduate Management Admissions.

Amongst other key roles and responsibilities, the board of directors is expected to develop and implement strategic plans that leverage the Councils core competencies and focus on service to GMACs constituents. The board is also responsible for developing policies, which ensure effective legal, ethical, and financial operations of the organization.

An illustrious academic, renowned worldwide for his research and teaching capabilities, Dean Rao taught as a tenured Professor of Operations Research at the Stern School of Business, New York University. He has also taught at the Graduate School of Management, University of Rochester, as an Associate Professor and as a visiting faculty to the University of Tennessee -- before joining IIM Bangalore. He has a Ph.D in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University, and dual Masters degrees from CMU and Cornell University.
