The Challenge Competition is open to any applicant internationally.
According to information shared by Sad Business School with MBAUniverse.com, The competition will promote the creation of sustainable new business ventures that combine financial returns with significant social and environmental benefits. These can include new products and services, innovative operational processes and business models.
Fiona Reid, Director of Entrepreneurship, Sad, explained: The aim of the competition is to inspire entrepreneurs to tackle complex 21st Century challenges by setting up innovative commercial ventures. We want to contribute to broadening the idea of business and encourage radical thinking in the pursuit of sustainable business models and markets. We hope the competition will become a launch-pad for successful commercial ventures in key challenge areas facing society.
According to Said, the competition will encourage ground breaking innovation and will inspire entrepreneurs to make a real difference through developing new markets and making a sustainable profit.
According to Sad, The research into the complex and intractable problems of the 21st Century has been undertaken by the James Martin Institute for Science and Civilization (JMI) at the School.
Angela Wilkinson of the JMI commented: Increasingly, we are facing a business world characterized by an ever growing list of pressing and interconnected social and environmental concerns, such as high energy costs, climate change, poverty, global pandemics and new forms of terrorism. We have created the 21st Century Challenge Competition to encourage such innovations and to recognize the potential for even greater contributions from the world of business.
According to Sad, The first round judging will take place in October by a panel of entrepreneurs, academics and other key figures in the field and will reduce the field to 9 finalists (three from each category). The finals will be held at the School on 29th November. The nine finalists will present their applications to a panel before an audience of venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs, policy makers, academics and corporate guests.
A first prize of 21,000 will be awarded along with three runners-up prizes for the winner of each challenge track of between 5,000 and 10,000.
