The day was marked with addresses from the Chief Guest of the day Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission and respected economist Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, ISB Chairman and respected management thinker Mr Rajat Gupta and ISB Dean Dr M R Rao. In his address Dr Ahluwalia urged the students not to limit their management applications only to the corporate sector but to apply them to all sectors, which require huge management inputs. He added that economic development should be inclusive.
Advising the passing out Class of 2007, Dr Ahluwalia said, you should be nimble and flexible in order to meet the real world outside. He added, it is not so much experience and seniority that makes leaders today but it is the ability to take risks and think out of the box.
Dr Ahluwalia also gave away the certificates to 416 students for successfully completing the Post Graduate Programme in Management at ISB.
Earlier the days function started with the traditional procession of the students donning the symbolically graduation gowns and mortarboards.
ISB Chairman and respected management thinker Rajat Gupta added to the mood and stressed on inculcating a life long learning mind set. A B-school helps you prepare to learn more in your careers, he said. He also advised the graduating class to take every opportunity to lead and hoped that the lessons of leadership learnt at the ISB would help them seek leadership opportunities.
Addressing the gathering, Dean of ISB, Dr M R Rao, said, It is a very special moment for us. Our students have played a pivotal role in the progress of the School and the Class of 2007 has shouldered its responsibility in an excellent manner. The Dean also detailed out the achievements of the last academic year- innovations in curriculum, exchange programmes, events, awards and placements.
At the ceremony two students V Subramanian and Suneet Gupta were also honoured as the ISB Scholars of Excellence for their exceptional academic performance .The top 10 percent of the Class who made it to the Deans List for their distinctive performance in various activities were also recognized.
In words that touched the ISB campus, Dr Ahluwalia in his addresses said that ISB has now traveled the journey from a dream to a vision to a reality. He said that the ISB graduates were the stars of the convocation ceremony and congratulated them for outstanding feats and extraordinary placements.
