Born in Sadulpur in Rajasthan, on June 15, 1950, Lakshmi N Mittal founded Mittal Steel Company (formerly the LNM Group) in 1976. Following the creation of Arcelor Mittal the worlds largest steel company last year, Mr. Mittal was pronounced Business Person of 2006 by The Sunday Times, International Newsmaker of the Year 2006 by Time magazine and Person of the Year 2006 by Financial Times for his outstanding business achievements.
Naturally, Mr Mittals business advice is globally sought after. He is a member of many trade bodies: the Foreign Investment Council in Kazakhstan, the International Investment Council in South Africa and the World Economic Forums International Business Council. He is also a director of ICICI Bank Limited and sits on the Advisory Board at Kellogg School of Management, and on the International Advisory Board at Citigroup.
In an endeavor to prepare global leaders who can contribute to the global economy and society, IMT has expanded by setting up a campus in Dubai (in 2006), other than one in Nagpur (in 2004).
