Singapore-based MDIS signs MoU with Loyola College

A recent press release states that the MOU is a bilateral agreement focusing on development in areas of quality programs, learning and sharing of teaching expertise, training, academic development and improving the capacities to serve students and industry both in India as well as Singapore. The MOU was signed by Reverend Father Albert Muthumalai, Principal, Loyola College and Dr R. Theyvendran, Secretary-General, MDIS.

According to the press release, the objective of the MOU is to form and develop long-term collaboration and cooperation between the two institutes in the areas of faculty exchange programs, student exchange programs and articulation models. It will also seek to offer merit-based scholarships for financially disadvantaged students.

Speaking on the occasion, MDISs Dr. R. Theyvendran said: This is the first MOU that MDIS has signed with an Indian institute. We are glad that it had to be with Loyola College: it has vast experience in the field of education and is an institution of international repute.

The MOU will be effective for the new batch of students starting the academic year 2007-2008. In future, MDIS plans to align with more educational institutes in India, the press release adds.

Dr. R. Theyvendran also noted: Indian students have formed a sizeable number in our institute at Singapore and we have found them to be very disciplined and focused in their education. Students and faculty of Loyola have long been known for their professionalism and academic excellence its students have gone on to become industry captains. We are keenly looking forward to knowledge sharing and exchanging proactive ideas to enhance and enrich the students curriculum.

Loyolas Rev Father Albert Muthumalai, for his part, stated: This is indeed a step in the right direction for an institute like Loyola which has been in the forefront of providing path-breaking trends in the field of education. We are proud to associate ourselves with MDIS as it is focused on providing highest quality of education at an affordable cost. The fact that it is a not-for-profit professional institute emphasizes the fact that education needs to be within the reach of all strata of society.

MDIS, founded in 1956, is Singapores oldest not-for-profit professional institute for lifelong learning.
