No, AIMA does not release MAT previous year question papers. MAT is held several times a year in PBT and CBT modes, and AIMA does not publish past question papers, so any “MAT previous year question paper” you find online is not an AIMA release. MAT Question Paper Pattern 2026
MAT Section | No. of Questions | Official AIMA Questions on This Page and PDF |
|---|---|---|
Language Comprehension | 30 | Q1 to Q5 |
Intelligence and Critical Reasoning | 30 | Q6 to Q10 |
Mathematical Skills | 30 | Q11 to Q15 |
Data Analysis and Sufficiency | 30 | Q16 to Q20 |
Economic and Business Environment | 30 | Q21 to Q25 |
Total | 150 questions, 120 minutes | 25 questions |
AIMA’s official Language Comprehension questions cover a reading passage of about 340 words with two questions, error spotting, one-word substitution and fill in the blanks, so vocabulary and grammar matter as much as reading. Here are two of them with answers.
Directions: Choose the option which can be substituted for the given words.
Q4. To form a plot or scheme, especially one to do something wrong or wicked, or designed to cause harm:
(1) Machete
(2) Machinate
(3) Conspire
(4) Fatal
Answer: (2) Machinate
Explanation: To machinate is to plot or scheme, especially with harmful intent. Conspire is close, but it means to plan secretly with others, so machinate is the more precise word. A machete is a large knife; fatal means causing death.
Directions: Choose the option to fill in the blanks.
Q5. We _______ to inform you that we cannot include your thesis in our library, on the _______ of not receiving permission from your supervisor.
(1) repent, justification
(2) saddened, reason
(3) lament, pretext
(4) regret, grounds
Answer: (4) regret, grounds
Explanation: “We regret to inform you” is the standard formal phrase, and “on the grounds of” means “for the reason of”. “Saddened” would need “are” before it, and a pretext is a false reason.
The reading passage with two questions and the error-spotting question are in the PDF. Jump to the download section for all 25, or take online test with 25 questions and check your score.
AIMA’s official Intelligence and Critical Reasoning questions include team selection based on conditions, statement and conclusions, assertion and reason, and two blood relation questions. Most are short, so this is a section where you can gain time. Here are two of them with answers.
Directions: Decide which of the conclusions follows from the statement.
Q7. Statement: The doctor is of the opinion that the patient’s condition would become normal after this operation.
Conclusions: I. The patient’s condition is such that he can be operated upon. II. Certain costly medicines can be administered to the patient and the operation may not be necessary.
(1) If conclusion I follows
(2) If conclusion II follows
(3) If neither conclusion I follows nor II follows
(4) If both conclusions I and II follow
Answer: (1) If conclusion I follows
Explanation: The doctor expects the patient to recover after the operation, which assumes the patient is fit to be operated upon, so conclusion I follows. Conclusion II brings in costly medicines that the statement never mentions, so it does not follow.
Q10. Pointing to Abhishek, Seema said, “His father is the only son of my grandfather.” How is Seema related to Abhishek?
(1) Niece
(2) Mother
(3) Sister
(4) Daughter
Answer: (3) Sister
Explanation: The only son of Seema’s grandfather is Seema’s father. So Abhishek’s father is also Seema’s father, which makes them siblings: Seema is Abhishek’s sister.
The team-selection, assertion and reason, and second blood relation questions are in the PDF. Download from the link below.
AIMA’s official Mathematical Skills questions cover time and work, simple interest (two questions), a two-digit number problem and percentage error in area. Three of the five involve interest or percentages. Here are two of them with solutions.
Q11. Three taps A, B and C can fill a tank in 12, 15 and 20 hours respectively. If tap A is open all the time and taps B and C are open for one hour each alternately, the tank will be filled in:
(1) 7 hours
(2) 6 hours
(3) 5 hours
(4) None of these
Answer: (1) 7 hours
Explanation: Take the tank as 60 units (LCM of 12, 15, 20). A fills 5 units an hour, B 4 and C 3.
Hours 1 and 2: (5 + 4) + (5 + 3) = 17 units. After 6 hours: 17 × 3 = 51 units, leaving 9.
In hour 7, A and B fill exactly 9 units, so the tank is full in 7 hours.
Q14. In measuring the sides of a rectangular plot, one side is taken 5% in excess and the other 6% in deficit. The error percent in area calculated, of the plot, is:
(1) 1.3%
(2) 1%
(3) 1.5%
(4) 3%
Answer: (1) 1.3%
Explanation: Measured area = 1.05 × 0.94 = 0.987 times the true area.
So the calculated area is 1.3% less than the actual area, an error of 1.3%. Shortcut: +5 − 6 + (5 × −6) ÷ 100 = −1.3%.
The two simple interest questions and the number question are in the PDF.
AIMA’s official Data Analysis and Sufficiency questions include two on tyre sales pie charts, a caselet, a data sufficiency question and a quantity comparison. Percentages appear in four of the five. Here are two of them with solutions.
Directions: A factory makes seven types of tyres, A to G. AIMA’s pie charts (shown here as a table) give each type’s share of sales in a city in April and May. Type B sales were 1,560 tyres in April (13%) and 2,250 in May (15%).
Tyre type | A | B | C | D | E | F | G |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
April share (%) | 3 | 13 | 22 | 25 | 17 | 8 | 12 |
May share (%) | 5 | 15 | 25 | 20 | 10 | 13 | 12 |
Q16. What is the maximum difference between the numbers of tyres of any two types sold taken together for April and that of other two types sold for May?
(1) 3390
(2) 5430
(3) 4523
(4) 4230
Answer: (2) 5430
Explanation: Total sales: April = 1,560 ÷ 0.13 = 12,000; May = 2,250 ÷ 0.15 = 15,000.
Largest May pair: C (3,750) + D (3,000) = 6,750. Smallest April pair of other types: A (360) + F (960) = 1,320.
Maximum difference = 6,750 − 1,320 = 5,430.
Directions: Compare Quantity A and Quantity B.
Q20. Quantity A: Net change when wages of workers were increased by 20% and then reduced by 10%.
Quantity B: Net change when wages of workers were reduced by 10% and then increased by 20%.
(1) If quantity A is greater
(2) If quantity B is greater
(3) If the two quantities A and B are equal
(4) If comparison cannot be made from the given information
Answer: (3) If the two quantities A and B are equal
Explanation: Take the wage as 100. Quantity A: 100 → 120 → 108, a net rise of 8%. Quantity B: 100 → 90 → 108, also a net rise of 8%.
Successive percentage changes multiply (1.2 × 0.9 = 0.9 × 1.2), so their order does not matter.
The second tyre sales question, the caselet and the data sufficiency question are in the PDF document that you can download from the link below.
This section tests your awareness of the economy and business news. Four of AIMA’s five official questions are tied to a recent report, agreement or Budget, so prepare from recent news, not old question banks. Here are two of them with answers.

(1) minimum wage offered to the workers in the organized sector.
(2) price at which the government buys agricultural output from the farmers.
(3) minimum price the producers demand to sell their goods.
(4) None of these
