Top XAT coaching institutes IMS, CL and Cracku had made following predictions after the XAT exam on January 4, 2026, based on XAT 2026 exam paper analysis.
XAT 2026 Score Vs Percentile Estimates: Comparison of IMS vs CL Vs Cracku
XAT Percentile | IMS Coaching | Career Launcher | Cracku |
|---|---|---|---|
99 | 37.5 | 38.4 | 36+ |
95 | 31 | 31.3 | 29+ |
90 | 26.5 | 27.5 | 27+ |
85 | 24 | 24.9 | N/A |
80 | 21.5 | 22.9 | 19+ |
Actual XAT 2026 scorecard data suggests that top coaching institutes and experts seem to have misread the difficulty level of XAT paper. Check key points from the comparison.
- Difficulty Level Overestimated by Coaching Institutes: Coaching institutes rated the paper “Moderate to Difficult,” leading to lower score estimates (~31 for 95%ile). However, the actual student performance shows it was a “Moderate” paper. The higher scores for given percentile means that students found the questions easier than what experts estimated.
- The 95%ile Mismatch (XLRI Cutoff)
- The Goal: 95th Percentile (Standard for XLRI BM/HRM calls).
- The Prediction: ~31 Marks by IMS, CL, Cracku.
- The Reality: ~40 Marks. Big mismatch!
- The Impact: Students who scored 31-35 and celebrated early are actually facing a big letdown and frustration of not getting XLRI Call.
- 3. The 90%ile Mismatch (IMT / IMI Cutoff)
- The Goal: 90th Percentile.
- The Prediction: ~27 Marks.
- The Reality: ~36 Marks.
- The Impact: Students with ~27 marks, thinking they were safe for IMI Delhi and IMT Ghaziabad, is actually sitting at approximately the 75–80th percentile. Again big letdown….
- 4. The 85%ile Mismatch (FORE / TAPMI Cutoff)
- The Goal: 85th Percentile.
- The Prediction: ~24 Marks.
- The Reality: ~33 Marks.
- The Impact: To secure a call from institutes like FORE or TAPMI, a student now needs much higher score.

This section explains how XLRI converts candidate’s responses (answer sheet) into raw scores, calculates scores, assigns ranks, and finally assigns percentiles. Read step-by-step guide to understand XAT 2026 Score Vs Percentile calculation process.
Step 1: Response Evaluation
In this step, the candidate’s answers for the three sections are checked against the XAT official answer key. Each response is classified as correct, incorrect, or not-answered response. No marks are assigned at this stage. The purpose here is only to identify the accuracy (correct, wrong, un-attempted questions) of each response so that the scoring rules can be applied correctly in the next step.
Step 2: Raw Score Calculation
After the responses are evaluated for all candidates, the raw score for each section is calculated using the official XAT marking scheme. For every correct answer, the candidate is awarded +1 marks. For each incorrect MCQ, –0.25 mark is deducted. This process is applied separately to all the three sections for each candidate to produce the “XAT raw section-wise scores”. Since XAT exam is held only in 1 slot, no normalization process is used in XAT exam.
Step 3: Ranking of Candidates
After the XAT overall scaled scores are calculated for all candidates, they are ranked in descending order based on these scores. The candidate with the highest overall scaled score is assigned the top rank, followed sequentially by others. This ranking reflects each candidate’s performance relative to all others who appeared for the XAT exam. This rank is used for calculating the percentile in the next step.
Step 4: Percentile Calculation
In the final step, once the ranks are assigned, the percentile is calculated to indicate the candidate’s relative performance among all test-takers. The XAT percentile shows the percentage of candidates who scored less than or equal to the candidate. It is derived using the candidate’s rank and the total number of candidates who took the exam. Percentiles are computed section-wise and overall, and these percentiles are the final values reported on the XAT scorecard.
As described in step 4 above, XAT percentile is calculated to show the percentage of candidates who scored less than or equal to the candidate, computed both section-wise and overall. Read this detailed explanation of how XAT percentile is actually calculated.
Each candidate who took the XAT exam is assigned a rank based on scaled score and if more than one candidate obtains same scaled scores, same percentile is assigned to them. Following Process is followed to arrive at XAT percentile score:
- Calculate the total number of candidates (N) who appeared for XAT exam
- Assign a rank (r), based on the scores obtained in the Section 1, to all candidates who appeared for XAT. In the case of two or more candidates obtaining identical scores in the section, assign identical ranks to all those candidates.
- Now Calculate the percentile score (P) of a candidate with rank (r) in the section as:
- P = [(N – r )/n] x 100
- Round off the calculated percentile score (P) of a candidate up to two decimal points. For example, all percentile scores greater than or equal to 99.995 are rounded off to 100, all percentile scores greater than or equal to 99.985 but less than 99.995 are rounded off to 99.99 and so on.
