IBSAT 2026 Eligibility: The IBSAT 2026 eligibility criteria have been laid down by ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education (IFHE). To be eligible for the IBSAT 2026 exam and subsequent MBA/PGPM admission to any of the nine IBS campuses (Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Gurgaon, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Dehradun and Jaipur), candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a UGC-recognised university, have completed 15 years of formal education (10+2+3 or 10+2+4), and must have studied in English medium at the graduation level. Final-year graduation candidates are also eligible to apply, subject to completing their degree requirements before May 31, 2027, with the final mark sheet/degree certificate due by November 1, 2027. There is no age limit for IBSAT 2026, and there is no cap on the number of attempts. Eligibility verification by IFHE will begin from August 2026 onwards. This article provides the complete IBSAT 2026 eligibility criteria, along with the English medium requirement, cross-validity exam thresholds, and all critical deadlines aspirants must track.

The two-year full-time MBA/PGPM programme is the flagship offering at all nine IBS campuses. The IBSAT 2026 eligibility criteria for MBA/PGPM are as follows:
- Educational Qualification: Candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a UGC-recognised university in India (or an equivalent foreign degree recognised by the Association of Indian Universities).
- Minimum Marks: A minimum of 50% aggregate marks in graduation. ICFAI does not offer a category-wise marks relaxation — the 50% threshold is uniform across General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS and PwD candidates.
- Duration of Education: Candidates must have completed a minimum of 15 years of formal education following the standard 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 pattern. Three-year diploma programmes recognised by AICTE in lieu of Class 12 are acceptable, subject to compliance with the 15-year norm.
- Medium of Instruction: English must have been the medium of instruction at the graduation level. Candidates whose graduation was in any other medium must submit valid TOEFL/NELT/IELTS scores by May 31, 2027.
- Final-Year Students: Candidates currently in the final year of their bachelor's degree are eligible to apply, provided they complete all graduation requirements (including practical examinations, viva-voce and project assignments) before May 31, 2027. Their admission, if offered, remains provisional until they produce the final degree certificate. The last date for submitting proof of graduation to IFHE is November 1, 2027.
Eligibility verification will be carried out by IFHE from August 2026 onwards. The onus of ensuring complete compliance with all eligibility conditions rests solely with the candidate — failing eligibility at any stage will lead to cancellation of candidature without refund of the Rs 1,800 application fee. A common query: Can final-year graduation candidates apply for IBSAT 2026?
Yes. Candidates currently in the final year of their three-year or four-year Bachelor's degree are fully eligible to fill the IBSAT 2026 application form. However, the following conditions apply:
- All graduation requirements — including theory exams, practical examinations, viva-voce, internships and project assignments — must be completed before May 31, 2027.
- Admission, if offered after the IBSAT 2026 selection process, will remain provisional until the candidate produces the final graduation mark sheet and degree certificate.
- The final degree certificate / consolidated mark sheet must be submitted to IFHE by November 1, 2027 — failing which, the provisional admission stands cancelled.
- Candidates falling short of the 50% aggregate at the final result stage will lose admission rights. ICFAI does, however, provide for a 75% refund of the first instalment of programme fees for such candidates — a unique provision among Indian B-schools.
The English medium clause is one of the most overlooked aspects of the IBSAT 2026 eligibility criteria. The requirement is straightforward but strict:
- English must have been the medium of instruction at the graduation level.
- Candidates whose graduation was conducted in any regional language, Hindi or other non-English medium are NOT automatically eligible — even if they cleared with 50%+ marks.
- Such candidates must submit valid scores in any one of the following English proficiency tests by May 31, 2027:
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
- NELT (National English Language Test)
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
- The minimum qualifying score in each test is determined by IFHE and is communicated at the time of selection. Candidates are advised to target a TOEFL iBT score of 80+, IELTS 6.5+ or equivalent NELT scores.
A subtle but important nuance: a candidate who studied in an English-medium school but pursued graduation through correspondence/distance mode where the medium was not explicitly English may also be required to submit proof of English instruction. The onus of demonstrating English-medium graduation lies with the candidate.
ICFAI has, since 2020, accepted scores from major national-level MBA entrance tests as an alternative to IBSAT for MBA/PGPM admission. Candidates with valid scores in these exams are eligible to apply to IBS without appearing for IBSAT 2026, subject to meeting the basic graduation and English medium criteria above.
Minimum cross-validity score requirements (2023 onwards scores accepted):
Alternative Exam | Minimum Qualifying Score for IBS |
|---|---|
CAT | 60 percentile and above |
XAT | 60 percentile and above |
NMAT by GMAC | 150 and above (out of 360) |
GMAT | 500 and above |
CUET-PG | As per IBS notification |
Candidates using these alternative scores must still:
- Fill the common IBSAT 2026 application form at admissions.ibsindia.org
- Pay the Rs 1,800 application fee — there is no waiver
- Email a scanned copy of their valid scorecard to [email protected]
