LBSIM AACSB Accreditation: A Milestone Three Decades in the Making
The journey from being an AACSB member to becoming a fully AACSB-accredited institution has been a structured, multi-year transformation. Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management was established in 1995 in memory of India's second Prime Minister, Bharat Ratna Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. Its Dwarka campus in Delhi was inaugurated in 2011 by then-President Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil. Over three decades, LBSIM has steadily built credentials with AICTE approval, NBA accreditation for its PGDM programmes, and AIU equivalence to MBA. Now, the AACSB credential puts it into a top league of business schools.

Speaking with MBAUniverse.com, Prof. Praveen Gupta, Director, LBSIM, said “The accreditation journey itself has been both structured and transformative. Over the years, LBSIM aligned its academic and governance processes with AACSB standards, building robust systems around assurance of learning, faculty qualifications, and strategic management. This involved the creation of dedicated teams, the implementation of outcome-based learning frameworks, and a sustained focus on faculty development and research.”

Dr Gupta further added, “The AACSB process culminated with the submission of the Self-Evaluation Report (SER), followed by a successful Peer Review Team visit, and ultimately, the ratification of accreditation by AACSB's Board of Directors in 2026.”

Why AACSB Accreditation Is Coveted Global Benchmark
AACSB International was founded in 1916 by American universities and is the oldest business school accrediting body in the world. It currently provides quality assurance to select member organisations and roughly 1000 accredited business schools across 60 countries. What sets AACSB apart is its peer-reviewed, principles-based framework. The accreditation evaluates a business school across four pillars: strategic management, learner success, thought leadership, and societal impact. The process is voluntary, multi-year, and requires institutions to undergo a Continuous Improvement Review every five years to retain the credential. Earning the AACSB Accreditation is consequently regarded as one of the most rigorous validations for a business school.

What This Means for LBSIM Students: A Career-Long Advantage
For current and prospective students, the practical impact of the LBSIM AACSB Accreditation is significant and long term. Once earned, the AACSB credential becomes a permanent feature on a student’s transcript, recognised globally by recruiters, foreign universities, and exchange partners.

Highlighting the student-centric impact of AACSB Accreditation, Prof. Gupta said, “For current and prospective students, AACSB accreditation translates into tangible and long-term benefits. It enhances the global recognition of their qualification, strengthens employability, and provides access to a rigorous, relevant, and future-oriented learning environment.” He further added, “Students are exposed to high-quality teaching, research-informed insights, and opportunities for holistic development.”

For an aspirant choosing between top B-schools in Delhi NCR, this development is of significant importance. The LBSIM PGDM programme, already known for quality and relevance in India, now carries an internationally recognized seal of quality.

The Academic Transformation Behind the Credential
For LBSIM, the AACSB Accreditation is not an award for the legacy or lineage. It is a recognition of current rigour, and future trajectory. Speaking with MBAUniverse.com, Prof. Gupta detailed the academic transformation that the journey demanded.

“One of the most significant outcomes of this journey has been the strengthening of academic processes. LBSIM has institutionalised a comprehensive Assurance of Learning framework that ensures continuous measurement and improvement of student outcomes,” Prof Gupta said. He further added, “The curriculum at LBSIM has been more closely aligned with programme goals, supported by contemporary pedagogy, experiential learning opportunities, and deeper industry engagement. There has also been a marked emphasis on integrating ethics, sustainability, and responsible leadership into the learning experience, in line with global expectations from business schools.”

This shift is meaningful for MBA students, aspirants, recruiters and other stakeholders. The Assurance of Learning (AoL) framework, a cornerstone of AACSB methodology, moves an institution from input-based teaching to outcome-based learning, with measurable student-level evidence collected, analysed, and acted upon every cycle.

A Cultural Shift, Not Just a Compliance Exercise
Beyond systems and curriculum, Prof. Gupta emphasised that the deeper change has been cultural. “Beyond systems and processes, the journey has driven important internal transformations. It has fostered a culture of continuous improvement and evidence-based decision-making, moving the institution from an activity-oriented approach to a more outcome-driven model of education.”

This cultural shift from execution to measurement is precisely what distinguishes AACSB-accredited institutions over the long run, and what allows them to retain the credential through five-yearly Continuous Improvement Reviews.

LBSIM's Programmes and Campus: The Foundation
Located in Delhi, the LBSIM Delhi campus offers a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) portfolio that includes the flagship PGDM (General), PGDM (Financial Management), and PGDM (Artificial Intelligence and Data Science). The institute admits handpicked students to the PGDM programme annually, supported by a faculty strength of over 40 members drawn from academia, the bureaucracy, the armed forces, and senior corporate practice. Admission to LBSIM PGDM is through CAT, XAT, or GMAT scores, followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.

The LBSIM AACSB Accreditation is now expected to materially strengthen its competitive standing in the best PGDM colleges in Delhi.

LBSIM Accreditation: A Milestone, Not an Endpoint
In his closing comments, Prof. Praveen Gupta framed the achievement as a stepping stone for future growth. “For LBSIM, AACSB accreditation is not an endpoint but a milestone in LBSIM’s ongoing journey towards excellence, innovation, and impact in management education.” said Dr Gupta.
