Girl with 80% vision loss converts IIM Ahmedabad: Scores 98.55 percentile in CAT 2016; IIM-A admission result out

IIM Ahmedabad admission result for PGP 2017-19 is out with many CAT 2016 toppers not finding their names in the admission list. However, an inspiration for candidates preparing for CAT 2017 and aiming for IIM Ahmedabad, a 21 year old girl Prachi with only 20% eye-vision who had scored 98.55 percentile in CAT 2016 has made it to IIM Ahmedabad.
Prachi Sukhwani the final year BBA student and suffering from 80% vision loss has received the admission offer to the flagship PGP 2017-19 batch from IIM Ahmedabad, the top ranked B-school of India. The admission offer was sent on the registered mail id of Prachi.
Prachi, suffering from severe eye disease macular dystrophy since her childhood has lost 80% of her vision but had set the goal of doing MBA from the best MBA college in India. Remaining focused on her CAT 2016 preparation and on the single aim to get IIM Ahmedabad, Prachi despite 80% vision loss scored 98.55 percentile in CAT 2016 and was shortlisted by all the 3 top IIMs for final selection round and has converted the call to IIM Ahmedabad after scoring well in Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal interview (PI) round. The result of other 2 IIMs , namely IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta is awaited.
21 years old Prachi is student of final year of BBA at Faculty of Commerce Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara (Gujarat) and is now preparing hard not to miss the high score in her final year BBA exam. Although the vision loss is due to genetic disorder for which no apparent treatment is there, Prachi prepared and cracked CAT 2016 with high score making it to IIM Ahmedabad, her dream B-school.
As a short term goal after completing her PGP in 2019, the CAT 2016 topper proposes to join a company to gain experience, but her long term goal is to go for start-up and start an NGO for the blind.
Prachi comes from a modest family of Gujarat. Her father Suresh Sukhwani runs a garment business. Her treatment is going on for past 15 years from Chennai. Even after being advised to wear special reading glasses, Prachi found them a deterrent in her CAT 2016 preparation and preferred not to use them. Her mother Kanchan is a house hold lady and also an LIC agent to support her family. Elder sister of Prachi, Nishita has also done BBA from the same University and is doing MBA from Mumbai based B-school.
All the BBA and other faculty members at MS University have applauded the efforts and success of Prachi. Despite all the odds and deterrents she has achieved a great success which is an inspiration for the candidates preparing for CAT 2017.
