IIM Kashipur's Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a full time residential doctoral programme designed to address the academic and research needs of professionals. The main objectives of the programme is to provide scholars with necessary skills to identify and research complex issues in the field of management.
Doctoral program seeks candidates with outstanding academic backgrounds, intellectual curiosity and discipline needed to make scholarly contribution. The programme is committed to train individuals to excel in their area of research through publication of quality work of international standard.
The objectives of the doctoral programme are to encourage scholars to carry out research in the field of management, leading to publication in internationally reputed research journals and finding solutions of real world management problems.
Candidates need to apply online for PhD admission with requisite application fees
- The candidates satisfying the academic eligibility criteria should submit their application online.
- Candidates require a standard test score, from any one of the acceptable tests for the area(s) of specialization they are applying to
- Applicants to take Common Admission Test (CAT) or depending on chosen specializations, alternative test scores in lieu of the CAT score
- Based on the applications received, candidates satisfying the Academic eligibility criteria and acceptable standard test score, the shortlisting will be done by the respective Areas. The candidates will be shortlisted (on the recommendation of the respective areas) based on the information provided in the application form.
- Three high quality research papers will be provided to all shortlisted Ph.D interview applicants in an area and each of shortlisted applicants can choose one paper of their preference from the list of three papers provided to all of them in the concerned area. The applicants will be asked questions by the interview panel members about their research inclinations and aptitude from their preferred paper, as will be identified by them in the interview.
- Candidates will be called for the Personal Interview (PI) which will be conducted at IIM Kashipur (online/offline). PI determines the academic preparation of the candidate for the specific area he/she has applied. An applicant can apply at most to two different areas of specialization.
- IIM Kashipur also expects a consistent and minimum performance under different parameters of Personal Interview (PI), which will be decided by the Admissions Committee. Candidates not meeting the minimum performance in any of the PI parameters will not be considered for the next stage of the selection process.
- Final selection will be based on the requirements of the academic area to which the candidate has applied and an area-wise offer list that will be prepared by the Areas only.
IIM Kashipur PhD programme consists of three stages – Coursework, Comprehensive Exam and Viva Voce, Thesis Work. Candidates are expected to submit their thesis in around four and a half years’ period from the date of initial registration. The maximum time allowed for completion of successful PhD thesis defense is six years from the date of initial registration
Upon joining the programme, scholars will go through coursework in 6 terms spread across 2 academic years. The course curriculum is an important and integral part of a PhD student’s learning process. Coursework for all nine areas has been recommended under the guidance of experienced and learned academicians. The recommended course structure provides inputs related to the foundations of management research, understanding and use of different methodologies, discipline related theory and research, advanced electives, research from allied areas (to motivate interdisciplinary research), academic writing, teaching training modules and workshops. While a basic structure has been proposed each area has also been given the flexibility to recommend courses relevant to their requirements.

Required Documents
Documents are required to be uploaded with the Application form are Category Certificate, if applicable; Physical Disability certificate, if applicable; Qualifying Test score card; All Educational Certificates (i.e., X, XII, UG and PG etc); Work Experience certificates, if any; Published research articles, if any.
Candidates for the IIM Kashipur PhD program admission must have following qualifications obtained from any of the recognized universities.
- A Master's degree or equivalent in any discipline with at least 60% marks; OR Five years integrated Master’s Degree Programme in any discipline with at least 60% marks, obtained after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent; Or A professional qualification duly recognized by UGC/AICTE/AIU equivalent to Master’s degree (like CA, CMA, CS) with at least 60% marks or equivalent grade point average; OR 4 years/8-semester Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech. /B. Arch. etc.) with at least 60% marks or equivalent grade point average.
- Work experience in industry or academics (in reputed organizations), though not mandatory, will be given due credit in the selection process. The work experience as full-time executives/government officials/NGOs or as management teachers in an organization/institution of repute is only considered as a valid experience.
- Those who are appearing for their final year examination in the current academic year may also apply.
- The candidates satisfying the academic eligibility criteria should submit their application online.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
SJMSoM IIT Bombay offers 4 year full time Doctoral Programme PhD in Management. With sound research base and extensive infrastructural facilities available, SJMSoM IIT Bombay offers PhD programmes in strategic management, technology management, financial management and operations management. The broad objectives of the PhD programme are not only to keep pace with expanding frontiers of knowledge but also to provide research training relevant to the present social and economic objectives of the country.
The IIT Bombay PhD programme in Management prepares the students for careers in teaching and research. The academic programme leading to the PhD degree is broad-based and involves a minimum course credit requirement and research thesis. Scholarship
A candidate, selected for the full time Ph.D. Programme, at SJMSoM IIT Bombay will be eligible for the financial support. The assistantship is payable for a maximum duration of 5 years or up to the thesis submission, whichever is earlier.
No programme fee is charged from the full time PhD candidates. They will be offered hostel accommodation at the campus
The monthly rate of Teaching Assistantship is Rs. 31,000/ for the first 2 years and enhanced rate of Rs. 35,000/ for the remaining period.
For Research Associates, the monthly rate of assistantship is Rs. 35,000/ for the first 2 years and enhanced rate of Rs. 39,000/ for the remaining period.

- The Ph.D program in SJMSOM consists of two phases - 1) Course work 2) Research Work. The credit requirements are:
- For Non-M.B.A background, the candidate is required to complete a minimum of 52 credits.
- For M.B.A background, the candidate is required to complete a minimum of 40 credits.
- There are 3 compulsory courses irrespective of the background which needs to be completed before registering for Ph.D
- Credit Seminar has 4 credits. At most 2 credit seminars can be presented
- Research Methodology course has 6 credits
- Communication course should be completed. It is an Institute level course with no credits
- After the successful completion of course work, the registration to Ph.D is done and the phase 2 of research work starts.

- You are required to submit the application ONLINE. No Downloadable Forms will be available. After filling the form, you are advised to take a print of your application and keep the same for the record.
- The application fee for General category is 300/- and for Women candidates, SC/ST/PwD category candidates the fee is Rs. 150/-. The fee is to be paid by SBI Internet Banking/ Online Payment System. Do not submit the printed copy of the application. Applications without online payment details will not be considered.
- You can apply for up to THREE disciplines/specialisations.
- Along with your application, you have to submit a research proposal (1500 words) on a topic of your interest. It should contain a) problem identification, b) brief review of literature, and c) methodology.
The Eligibility Criteria for SJMSoM IIT Bombay PhD in Management programme have following key requirements:

- Applicant should possess an Undergraduate Degree of minimum 3 years duration in any discipline from a recognized University (Approved by UGC), with a minimum of 50% marks (or equivalent grade point) in aggregate. (45% in case of SC/ST/OBC and Christian Candidates).
- Applicant must have a minimum of three (3) years of full-time work experience (As on 31.07.2024) in one or more registered companies. Applicants must be currently employed in a registered company and must provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their current employer at the time of application. - An applicant will be required to appear in an Aptitude Test (50 Marks - 1 Hour) to be conducted by the University after successfully filling up the application form.
