According to Dr Sumanta Basu, CAT 2018 exam convener and faculty at IIM Calcutta, Attendance in CAT 2018 has gone up to 87.1% with 209,405 test takers as against 199,632 in 2017, marking a presence of ten thousand more candidates. It may be noted that the total test takers in some of the MBA entrance exams in India are limited to 10000 only.

Unbelievable but true, the globally renowned top B-school of India, IIM Ahmedabad is treated as Commercial Coaching Centre by the Revenue Department of Ministry of Finance, Government of India. The department has imposed and demanded an amount of Rs.52 crore towards service tax from IIM Ahmedabad on the course fee collected by it from 2009 to 2014 on various management programmes. IIM Ahmedabad has been pleading its case for long to revoke this order and restore its position as Higher Education Institute which is exempted from paying service tax.
