Common Admission Test (CAT) 2020, the mandatory entrance exam for admission to 20 IIMs, FMS Delhi, SPJIMR Mumbai, MDI Gurugram and hundreds of top ranked B-schools in India, will be conducted on November 29, 2020. CAT 2020 Convener IIM Indore is making all efforts to hold CAT 2020 exam as per previous year schedule. In a relief to MBA aspirants, no change in Testing Mode is expected.

Moving a step closer to unveiling of CAT 2020, Professor Harshal Lowalekar, Faculty for Operations Management and Quantitative Techniques area at IIM Indore, has been appointed as the Convener of CAT 2020. This was confirmed by IIM Indore Director Prof Himanshu Rai in an exclusive interview with MBAUniverse.com. Professor Harshal Lowalekar is also the Chair of Admissions at IIM Indore, and has been awarded as Best Professor of the Year many times.

There are reports in Social Media that CAT 2020 might be postponed due to recent spike in Covid-19 cases causing the night curfew in many cities. To get clarity on the issue, MBAUniverse.com approached CAT 2020 convener Prof Harshal Lowalekar, faculty and admission chair at IIM Indore. Responding to the MBAUniverse.com query on November 23, 2020, Prof  Harshal has confirmed “CAT will happen on 29^th November only.

In the grim situation of COVID-19 pandemic when job cuts and salary delays are rampant, top IIMs have chosen to increase their fee for the PGP 2020-22 batch. IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta and IIM Lucknow and many other IIMs have resorted to sharp fee hike. Yet, top PGDM colleges like XLRI, SPJIMR, MDI Gurgaon, IMI New Delhi and IMT Ghaziabad are not allowed to increase their MBA Program Fee by regulatar AICTE. Infact, PGDM B-schools have rolled back their fee structure following the AICTE guidelines, issued on May 1.

On March 23, in an unprecedented move taken to mitigate disruption caused by COVID 19, global testing body ETS announced that students can take GRE exam from the comforts of their homes. GRE is accepted by top global universities like Harvard, Chicago and MIT for their Masters, MBA and other programs. Soon after, on April 14, GMAC too announced that it will offer GMAT Online exam. Since Exams are considered as sacrosanct where in-person supervision is necessary, the news left many purists wondering if this was a right step. Also, will students take the option or wait out the storm?

IIM Ahmedabad is facing court trial for denying admission to the candidate with 99.95 percentile in CAT 2019 exam. The candidate used RTI Act to know the bifurcation of total marks scored by him in  final selection process. However on the ground that IIM Ahmedabad did not provide this bifurcation, Raghav has filed a case against the institute in the Court of Law.
