BT-AC Nielsen B-School Survey: 2007 Vs 2006, what comparison shows. MBAUniverse.com analysis

The survey is conducted by market research agency AC Nielsen. MBAUniverse.com compared the rankings released this year (Business Today, September 23, 2007) with last years rankings (Business Today, July 16, 2006). Analysis of these rankings over two years offers some interesting patterns.

While the top ranking B-schools, especially IIMs, seem quite settled in their positions (5 IIMs occupy top 6 positions), there is a lot of churn lower down the order. (See table below)

There are four new entrants in the Ranking 2007:

The campaign was organized for ayurvedic soap Medimix & fertilizers of Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) at Khurda and Cuttack districts of the Orissa. The institute plans to launch similar promotional campaigns for Hindustan Unilever Limited, Britannia Industries Limited, Lotte India Corporations Limited and ICICI Lombard in the next few weeks.

FMS students promote social cause with innovative auctions of Coffee-dates, Bike-lessons and Gyan-sessions!

They organized an auction recently which saw students big for interesting items like coffee dates, gyaan sessions by the toppers, and even bike lessons. Students were able to collect Rs 21,000 in the auction. This auctions was organized by newly formed social service cell Vihaan at FMS.

Outlook B-School Survey 2007: IIM-A, XLRI, FMS and IRMA top league tables

For the first time, the survey has classified B-Schools into four categories: Government/ PSU B-Schools, Private B-Schools, University Departments and Sectoral B-Schools. The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A); XLRI Jamshedpur; Delhi Universitys Faculty of Management Studies (FMS); and the Indian Institute of Rural Management (IRMA) have topped respective league tables. The survey notes that while IIMs are still on top, many aggressive private B-schools are fast catching up.

Naukri Founder Sanjeev Bikchandani says talent shortage is Indias biggest constraint, calls for education sector reform

He was speaking at AIMA-AAMOs National Management Convention in Kolkata on September 8. Said Mr Bikchandani, Biggest constraint for managing new India in future will be lack of talent. Services like IT, ITES, Financial services, R&D in Pharma are all human capital intensive business where India has done well. But we are now running out of talent. My interaction with various companies tells me that there is a huge talent shortage round the corner.

India is a transformed nation, says Sanjiv Goenka, Vice Chairman, RPG Group

Said Mr Goeka, The India of today is reformed, rejuvenated and resurgent. A dramatic transformation has taken place in the past 15 years. The transformation has been fast and fundamental.

Giving more details of this transformation, Mr Goenka said, The economy has opened up. The pace of growth of the economy is amongst the highest in the world. The content of GDP has also changed. Most importantly, people are infused with confidence. We see the emergence of the Global Indian Player.
