The two-month compulsory Summer Training in industrial and business organisations follows the first year course work. The summer training is aimed at providing exposure to the real life working environment. Students are required to work on specific, time-bound organisation related assignments.
The Second Year academic work, spread over three terms, comprises two compulsory courses of integrative nature along with a package of 15 elective courses of advanced and applied nature.

IIM Lucknow PGP students have the opportunity to choose and participate in two workshops in their sixth semester. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
The Doctoral Programme (PhD) of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta was started in 1971. It is a full-time doctoral programme to be completed in four to five years. The programme offers opportunities for advanced studies and research in different specializations related to Management Science. The Programme aims to prepare students for careers in teaching and research in management studies and in related disciplines, and for careers in the government, in industry, and in other organizations that require advanced analytical and research capabilities.
On successful completion of the Programme, a student is awarded the Ph.D degree, in his/her area of specialization.

Upon joining the programme, students go through coursework in 6 terms spread across 2 academic years and complete at least 90 credits. The academic group that a student joins is treated as the Major area of specialization.
In the first year, students take up at least 15 compulsory credit courses (includes 2 compulsory courses on research methods [qualitative and quantitative], for groups requiring students to do these courses in the first year) and 1 compulsory non-credit course in Qualifying Mathematics. In the second year, students have to take 8 courses in major area (out of which at least six should be doctoral-level advanced courses; if a student has already taken any doctoral-level course in the first year, he/she needs to take the remaining number of doctoral-level advanced courses in the second year out of total six). Minimum of 3 doctoral courses of 3 credits each offered by any academic groups (or mix thereof) other than his/her group of specialization should be taken. Besides, 2 compulsory doctoral level courses on research methods (qualitative and quantitative), for academic groups deciding students to do these courses in the second year should be taken. Students are required to take at most two term papers (in lieu of courses) of which at least one term paper must be in the major area.
In the summer vacation at the end of first year, students undertake a project/research work which is treated as equivalent to 2 credit courses.
The qualifying CGPA for first year is 5.5 while that for the whole period of coursework is 6.0. Students failing to meet the cut-off CGPA are required to withdraw from the programme. After successful completion of coursework, students take a CQE (Comprehensive Qualifying Examination) administered by the respective academic group. Upon successful completion of CQE, a student moves into the thesis or dissertation phase.
Students are required to attend a teaching practicum. Students are required to take up Teaching Assistantship over the tenure of Fellowship for at least one diploma course offered by the academic group.

Master of Business Administration (Business Analytics) known as Post Graduate Programme in Business Analytics (PGPBA) is a masters level programme, leading to the grant of a degree of Master of Business Administration in Business Analytics. The MBA Business Analytics (PGPBA) at IIM Bangalore programme offers Core and Elective courses. Core courses are compulsory courses offered in the first year and second year. Elective courses are offered in the second year, where students get the opportunity to choose from a basket of multidisciplinary courses and courses with functional depth in Analytics.
IIMB courses are delivered through a combination of lectures, classroom discussions, industry interactions, case analyses, individual and group projects, term papers, role plays, dissertations, simulations, business games, films, and various experiential learning methods. During the first year, a PGP-BA student is required to undertake eighteen core courses (totalling 49.5 credits). IIMB PhD students actively engage with its world class faculty work at the cutting edge of research, teaching, and implementation of management research. The PhD programme at IIMB has two main phases: an initial phase of coursework aimed at providing breadth and depth in management disciplines, and a subsequent phased focused on development of the doctoral dissertation under the guidance of a dissertation advisory committee. Periodic milestones are inbuilt in the programme to ensure timely progress towards the degree.
The programme duration is 5 years and has two phases: coursework and thesis research. The first phase covers the first two years and includes the following components: (a) coursework (b) independent study (c) a summer research project at the end of the first academic year. Successful completion of the first phase requires passing the Comprehensive Examination (written and viva) at the end of the second academic year.
The student then begins the second phase focused on the dissertation research. The dissertation work which takes roughly three years has milestones such as formation of Dissertation Advisory Committee, Dissertation Proposal Defense, Dissertation Submission, Dissertation Evaluation, and Public Defense of Dissertation.

MBA for working professionals, known as the Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM) leading to MBA degree is a week end programme spread over two years. The PGPEM is a programme designed for working mid-level and senior executives with a minimum of four years of work experience after graduation.
Launched in 1998, the PGPEM programme is rigorous and scheduled on weekends to make it accessible to those who do not want to leave their jobs while pursuing a master’s degree. The purpose of the programme is to complement the excellent functional knowledge and experience that participants possess with contemporary management knowledge, thereby preparing them to manage greater responsibilities in a liberalized and globalized economy.
The graduates of the PGPEM are part of the IIMB Alumni Association. IIMB has a global alumni network with chapters in all major cities in India and several major cities across the world. The alumni organize regular and special events, sometimes in collaboration with the pan-IIM network, to facilitate knowledge sharing and networking.
- Applicants require a valid CAT, GMAT, GRE or IIMB Test score as on the date of application submission to be considered for admission

IIM Bangalore PGPEM Students are provided a strong grounding in general management through the core courses in the first year and ample opportunity to acquire specialized knowledge through a rich choice of electives in the second year. A unique feature of this programme is that students can choose not only from the electives offered by the PGPEM but also from the other degree-granting programmes at IIMB.
The on-campus classes for the PGPEM are offered over the weekends, allowing students the opportunity to pursue a quality management programme without compromising on their fulltime jobs. The PGPEM also provides participants opportunities to go on full-term exchange programmes with IIMB's international partner institutions.
The PGPEM has four terms of three months each in an academic year. PGPEM-specific courses are scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays. In the second year, students with flexible work schedules may also choose to enrol in elective courses offered across other Post Graduate Programmes in the institute between Monday and Saturday. Each student is expected to complete the required 750 contact hours of the programme, within a maximum of five academic years.
IIMB uses the concept of credits to define the weightage of a course for both core and elective courses. Each course is typically of three credits. The thumb rule is that a three-credit course involves about 100 hours of work – 30% in the classroom and the rest for preparation and assignments. Core courses are offered during the first year.
